Today I added exercise to my better sleep regimen. I think the small steps I’m taking are working. I still wake up around 3 but I seem to have an easier time falling back asleep and those extra couple of hours make a huge difference. I’m definitely less zombie-like in the mornings. One day last week I even slept through the whole night. I don’t remember the last time that happened—I was completely freaked out when the alarm went off.
I know a lot of you have the same issues, so here’s a run down of what I’ve implemented so far. Please feel free to reply with more tips.
- no computer/iPad/phone screens at least 30 minutes before bed
- starting my nighttime rituals earlier (wash face, brush teeth, walk dog)
- a cup of herbal tea as a nightcap
- guided meditation using the Simply Being app
- exercise -I know for sure I sleep better when I’m physically active. Hoping to drop some holiday pounds as a bonus.
- darkness -We used to leave a small light on in the kitchen and I realized that even little bit of light really bothered me once I woke up. Considering a sleep mask but I think I’d be aware of it all night long, thus defeating the purpose.
